New York, New York, view from the top of the Empire State Building

New York, New York, so good they named it twice. I visited New York for the first time in 2009 and stayed in the Manhattan area. Being from the UK I saw similarities, large bustling city, diverse culture, magnificent sights. We visited Staten Island, Statue of Liberty, Little China, Little Italy, Central Park and saw a show on Broadway. I had heard that the New Yorkers were not too welcoming to outsiders. The New York I found was very like my beloved London and the people were so welcoming and friendly I long for my return visit.

Shining City on the Lake

The painting Shining City on the Lake has had a 16 x 10 print purchased by a collector from Clarkson MI. The painting is about the resurgence of Detroit and the trials and tribulation that this great city has been through but with the return of the auto industry and the resilience of the people it will bounce back again. The painting can be viewed on this blog or on www.fineartamerica.com/profile/davebrownart

Enjoy

Self Portrait

I created this self portrait whilst looking in a mirror and sketching the results and then taking it to the studio and painted. Its interesting how we each see ourselves maybe not as others see us. I have created a ruddier complexion than the reality and my face is more round and plump. But in that brief moment of looking in the mirror and sketching this is how I appeared to myself. What is your self portrait like, give it a go you may be surprised at the results.

Shining City On The Lake

24 x 36 acrylic on canvas board derived from an article I had read on Detroit. The article described the troubles that the city had suffered and showed people and houses that had been affected. It then went on to say that a recovery was starting with the resurgence of the automobile industry and the resilience of the people in facing the crisis. The painting shows bright spots shining through the darkness to symbolize and hope that a better future for Detroit lies ahead.
